Our history started with Charles Underwood Sr., a minister that was sent out from the Michigan Avenue Church of Christ in 1966 ordained by Levi Kennedy. He started in a storefront on 79th & Loomis and this new work was given the name Foster Park Church of Christ. From there the congregation moved to a few other locations but in 1973 it settled in it's current location on 128th and Lowe Ave. In 1976 Charles Underwood Sr. passed away, and from there a few other ministers took on the leadership mantle to carry on his work and vision. Minister Daniel Carter Sr. came to us in 1996 and served as our preacher for ten years, during which time the name of the congregation was changed to reflect the new area it resided in: Colonial Village Church of Christ. Under Daniel Carter's leadership we continued to grow and develop taking on many new works and programs to develop the new found community that we were planted in. Daniel Carter has since then relocated to a new area and moved on to a new chapter in his life and ministry and we wish him all the best knowing that he will be a great blessing wherever he particpates in the upbuilding of God's kingdom. In November 2005 Kennya Durr and Leroy Smith were installed as interim ministers by outgoing minister Daniel Carter and Kennya was installed in April 2006 as their assistant minister. This year (2009) Kennya and Marcella Durr moved on from Colonial Village in a step of faith and became part of the Main Street congregation in Evanston on Easter and Kennya began his tenure there as the local evangelist in June 2009 after the relocation of Bro. Harold Armstead down south to take on a new work. Minister Lester Carter (no relation to Daniel Carter) came in January 2006 helping out as we were looking for another minister to once again take on the leadership mantle. His philosophy and vision can best be summed up in what he describes as our four fold purpose: 1) Glorify your God, 2) Immitate your Savior, 3) Dominate your circumstances, and 4) Maximize your potential! And so on March 15, 2006 he accepted an offer to become the newest leader and minister, and was formally installated on April 15, 2006.
